I am posting this from the KC Ameristar casino. Miss my friends on the forum. Lots of coins here no detector needed. Well here is my story. Pictures on second post.
Have you ever wished you could step back in time? Well a few metal detector enthusiasts had the next best thing occur. In our city in 1897 our city fathers had sidewalks laid on Main Street. They were completely removed in 1996 including the pavement. It was an opportunity to step back in time for a week.
The first picture is probably the best find for me. Here is how I remember the find. I was in front of one of seven saloons we had in town. The ground was moist. I picked up a great signal. About 4 inches I see a pink disk. I picked it up out of the hole. I rubbed the moist dirt off the disk. I looked at my thumb and it had a pink residue on it. I new it wasn?t metal so I tossed the disk. I started to dig some more and I see this coin in the bottom of the hole. Trembling I picked the coin up and it was an 1845 O Seated Liberty half. Then a light bulb came on and I said out loud. Oh sh_ _ t that was a poker chip I tossed. Later I found out it was a poker chip. What was left of it after I smeared it.
It was lying right on top of the half. In my mind a cowboy off the cattle drive brought this coin up from Texas. I also learned to NEVER rub anything on site! I only was able to look 4 hours total. This is what else I found. 6# Indian head pennies. 1# 1877 S quarter. 2# 1883, 1890 V nickels. 3# 1875, 1882, & 1887 dimes. It was fun knowing a coin was going to be old.
Enjoy the post and HH.
