First post.... Today I found a nice spoon, I'm happy I didn't mangle it. It was unexpected among all the mower strewn can shards. I got a hold of it and yanked it out rather rudely thinking it was just another ripped up can.

Also found an odd conical decorative thing...its hollow...appears to have had something attached on the outer rim that maybe snapped off. Duplicate design on the other side. Looks familiar but I can't really say what it might be. cool. Fun day and I'm glad I got out as time is short with the season.

Welcome to T-net. Nice spoon. Hope you get an id on the other fine item.

Nice spoon for your first post, and whatever the other mystery thing is...
It's always fun to find things that keep us guessing and researching.
Welcome to TNet! :hello:

Welcome to Tnet, can't help with the modern looking ID, but that large spoon looks silver? Is it? (If so a fair chunk!)

I don't know what the thingamabob is either, but the spoon should be Sterling silver. It's Gorham's 1904 'Portland' pattern, which wasn't made in silverplate.

PS: Welcome to Tnet, bmccombs

Correct, it is marked Sterling. Thank you for the info I was hoping you would date it.
It was 12 inches down just behind the slide in our local park. An 1880s map indicated there was flour mill outbuilding there until 1900 or so....a "monkey Junction" playground has taken its place.
