I knapped from ‘85-‘07. Around 22 yrs non stop. I paid for it with repetitive motion injuries to my shoulder, elbow and wrist. I only knap very occasionally now. I’ve lost the strength in my hands and knapping is much more difficult. It’s sad because I have all the skills but my hands just won’t do the work anymore. I saw a nice flake yesterday of heated kaolin in a debitage pile and decided to try and chip one.

At this point, I blew it and got a stack on the back. I cheated and used my diamond grinder to remove the stack. You can see the grind marks.

The grinding saved the day and I was able to complete the point. At this stage of my knapping career I’m very happy to be able to make a small common looking point.

You STILL have it Gary ! maybe you could have some class's to teach knapping to other's like me and guy's like me that want to learn from a Master Knapper like yourself ! For me at 78 and having the same medical issue's as you are ,BUT I still want to get it done while I can still learn and do a little knapping ! GOODLUCK in what ever you do, you've inspired a lot of people with your talent ! P.S. I talked to my friend that wanted to find a point himself and his reply was that he just wanted to find one for the fun of it ,NO OTHER reason .I want to Knapp a small point of Cherokee heritage and gold wire wrap it for him as a Suprise and your inspiration is leading me to do a fine job of it ! THANK YOU !
