Hello all

I just received my first metal detector today! An Ace 250. There is one small problem though. The coil connecting to the lower rod seems to not fasten properly thus making the coil drag on the ground. Will it be safe to fasten it with a tight metal nut and bolt?

I went out to the park and did not find anything! Not even a penny. I feel a little frustrated but will venture out tomorrow morning.

without pullin your chain you should know better, only use plastic type bolts for the coil mounting,, as the metal bolts will play up with your coil,, maybe go to a local detectorist store,, if one near to you,, if not find some old mechano toy and use the plastic bolts hope you get this one sorted

Fastenal sells nylon bolts that work well. Many sizes, they can be found on the website. The typical toilet seat fasteners are 3/8" and too big. Most of the coils I have seen use a 8MM or 5/16" in SAE. Hope that helps.

did you put the rubber washers between the holding prongs they should have been supplied with the bolts,, if you have no rubber washers, this is the problem and i suggest you go buy a couple of them,.

Read the instructions and look at the illustrations. I had the same problem (?) when I started putting mine together, then figured out the washers went INSIDE the handle. That took care of it. ;D

HH, ya'll!

Rubber washer for a garden hose will do it. When you put those rubber washers in, put some silicone caulk on the back side so they don't drop out when changing coils. Garrett Techs was off on vacation when those washers was invented! ??? >:(

Thanks to all who responded. I readjusted some things and all is well! Now I just have to work on finding those treasures!
