In response, I cannot resist starting my reply with three letters... LOL! The "letter" on your brass 1-piecce flatbutton is actually a droop-winged eagle (its head is looking toward the button's right) in the button's backmark. The patriotic American Eagle in a backmark is believed to signify the button is US-made, during the decade or so after the War-of-1812, when the American public patriotically boycotted British-made goods... notably, the brass flatbuttons which had a British Royal Crown in their backmark.
