Found on a Long Island NY property dating back to 1835.
Brass or copper, 5 1/2 inches, just shy of one oz. and doesn't bent.
Small portion scraped off in last picture.

I'm just throwing this out for what it's worth possibly a native awl of some sort.

That was my first thought as well but disclaimer I am far from an expert on the topic. OP you should take this over to the fur trade subforum as they have many people experienced with that type of artifact and they will be able to tell you whether it's a native American copper awl.

looks to be from something that was bigger and trimmed down, and that piece was discarded.
