Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
I say rare because I haven't had one this season!‎6hr hunt most of the good targets came from the water over waist deep. The wind kept the waves down which is a rare thing up on the norther beaches!I hunted the tide down and the trash came from the wet sand. I did manage a few coins. I got in the water just about low and found the first ring the 14k and then I had coins just about every swing for a 1/2 hour. I was walking a target out to dump on the wet sand and I got the low tone. I dump my target????? and dug the second ring 10k the target I dumped I never found again. I really thought it was a dime and I could not find it in the shells. 76 coins and all the trash did not fit on the plate!

im here in new jersey too, crap....i got a minelab exal a few months ago, and ive been having a hard time trying to hunt the water at the beaches. the waves here break too hard at the shoreline, and the drop offs are everywhere. im not sure where your at, but im up north, sea bright, long branch, point pleasant....ive tried the bayside by keansburg but no one really swims there. i know all the good stuffs in the water, if i could just to them without drowning

You need to keep track of the winds. While west wind keeps the waves down a few hours of west wind brings the sand on the beach. East winds are always welcome but tend to bring higher waves. The north winds cut the beaches on the North sides of piers and jettys. South winds cut them the opposit way. The first day of a slow cutting beach is bad but the second is great. If the beach is cutting fast then you need to be there right then doesn't matter the tide. Just try to ride by any beach and take notes of the wind and conditions you see, you need not be planning a hunt for days. You need to se what changes the beach. Find a marker fence pole pier rocks, remember what it looked like the last time. Remember this is a game of inches. If you can find a target a 12 inches and today is's 13 then your SOL. Conditions will always dictate your finds. Always look for the low spots with shells and pebbles. Scallops cut outs hold targets. But the rise between them has been known to hold light weight engagement rings. Not a targeted target in my book unless its a huge diamond. Any diamond less than 1ct is not good. And the gold weight is less than 100 bucks. Its ok to pull up and move to that location. Never ever leave an area that has targets reguardless of the type. If your finding sinkers stay there till you find gold . Its there! We want big fatty bands with weight. LOL! Not sure of your backround with MDing. The Excalibur is a very powerful machine. More is never better. keep the sesitivity lower than you think. I run around 6 on the wet sand. In the water 4/5 is a great start. Too many push the setting till it falses, and back it down a little. Now it still can be bouncing the signals back off the sand and you'll never know. opther than lack of targets. The waves are just part of the game. make sure the wire are moving all around the shaft. You will get use to the same false tone. Once you start hearing a good signal the false tones will be not a facto. The Excalibur is so noted for its gold tone you'll never forget it once you hear it.Hope his helps put gold in your scoop!
