Ran out to the yard on a whim for about 20 mins before dark. detected up one side of the house, just one pass and found a couple neat things.
I dug a few early 1900's rimfire shell casings right off the bat, a couple .22 slugs, then a few pieces of junk copper. Then all of a sudden I get a pretty good signal and find this 1952 Indiana dog tax tag about 4" down. pretty cool
Then I found the spoon, made by holmes, booth & haydens mfg co. sometime between 1853 and 1901 silver plated brass. followed up by a chunk of molten silver colored metal. It may be silver, too heavy for aluminum, too light for pewter, too hard to be lead so i'm not sure. I also found a tiny little enamel plated bowl, guess it was for a doll set or something. Then the bowl off a measuring spoon.
Then right as it was just getting too dark to see I hit a good loud signal, popped a 6" plug, still in the hole...I knew it was big because my compadre
won't normally pick up coin sized items that deep anymore. Dug another 3" and see metal, looks copper but danged if I can tell what it is! I wiggle it around and see it's pretty big so I get a shovel, pop a bigger plug and pull out a big complicated looking piece of copper. I ran over to the spigot and rinsed it off. Looks like the wick holder/adjustment for an oil lamp or lantern. Pretty cool!
