I went on a hunt for about 2 hours to a place I have been sooooo many times before and I usually can count on finding at least 1 bullet. Yesterday I dug 6 bullets and 2 eagle buttons right in the same ground I have walked over countless times. I made only 1 adjustment, Staying in the basic 1 program, I took the silencer down to -1 after watching a series of videos. Loaded up with excitement I went to my little go to place, and bam! Had pretty good action in my 2 hours. So my question is this, is that adjustment that big of a difference? (Meaning, if it worked that much better, why not set up like that to begin with) or could it simply be I am getting better with the machine? Obviously I would like to think I am getting better with it :laughing7: Because for a fact, I know I have walked over this exact same spot with a whites and also 4-5 times previously with the DEUS. This was the 1st time I ever went into the menu screen and again, simply amazed with results I have had thus far (I got the machine in December) But I am a KISS style guy and do not want to go fooling with settings, but I also want to get the most out of the machine. I'm finding stuff for sure, but now makes me wonder how much other stuff I have missed, being I missed these buttons and bullets the last 15 times I been there. So any input on which program you use and tweaks to it, I would be interested in hearing. Take care and be happy!

With you on this TokenMan, just posted on Metal Detecting forum about the disc/notch experiences. I am a KISS man, but with all these adjustments, knowing you are improving or not is hard to determine. You have seem to found a good answer for the moment. I would guess planting a target garden is the best way to determine what settings improve your finds. I seem to believe it is a mixture of science and alchemy, you just have to work it out. Nice to see you found a whole new site, with an adjustment of your settings!!

The silencer has the biggest affect on depth. .So that could be the reason? Or you could of just missed it..
Im hear to tell you, learn the detector, all them settings are there for a reason!!! if you dont have andys book that would be a great place to start..
And watch alot of youtube.
GARYS DETECTING UK.
That will help a lot. .

Mr. Sabisch's book is a must have for Deus users! It has a great deal of information and an excellent reference for future question you may have. It is an easy read at a great price! I highly recommend it!

Here's my opinion, Basic 1 runs on silencer of 2, so you changed it to -1, dropping it 3 "points", basically turning it off to let all iron audio to bleed through and not be filtered - most 2 piece eagle buttons have an iron back I think, so if the backs are corroded maybe setting 2 was filtering out the rust / iron? As far as bullets go I wouldn't think the silencer setting, from 2 to -1, would not make much difference, unless they were really deep. Probably just missed them as Vino suggested, unless you are using stakes and string to grid off an area it's very easy to do (missing). I also have a few hot spots in the woods where I still find good things, so I know what you're saying for sure! (how did I miss that!?) That's why the term "hunted out" means nothing to me.

The deus fast program runs the silencer at -1 .. I love to use that program.. There is a trade off however, no free lunches so to speak..And that tradeoff is that you will also dig some killer sounding bottle caps at unreal depths..It lets more trash slip through as where the basic 1 discs a lot of it out..I hope im telling you correct as im sorts new to the deus as well..
good luck,

dan

Silencer at -1 allows faster processing, Less signal filtering, max detection depth and more noise/chatter..................
