I'm able to hunt around a house built in 1939. I've only hit twice now for a total time of about 45 minutes and found a couple of pennies from the 1960's. There is mucho trash in the ground, as I'm huntin' in tone only mode for now. The ground is level and pretty muddy under the grass. What are the chances of a silver coin or two in the yard? I suspect there maybe because rumours have it the original owner was into a little gambling and held small get togethers at this house back in the 40's. A cache? So much development around it, streets on 3 sides, sidewalk, big storage shed, I'm afraid a lot of good ground is covered.

Thanks,

That sounds like you might have some luck there. What I do for the sidewalks in old towns is keep a jackhammer, caution tape, and a public works magnetic sign in my van, that way I am ready to go when I drive through old towns.

There could be silver there. Try the smallest coil you can to be able to scan next to rebars in sidewalks and foundations, fences, etc. Over lap so as to not miss anything too.

good Luck,

I would suggest spending a lot of time, if you can. Dig every signal without discrimination. Clear that yard of the trash, then go back and rehunt for the softer, deeper signals.

Sure it takes more time and effort, but you may be rewarded handsomely.

Pick out a nice ten by ten square for a test run and see if will be worth the effort.

Thanks for the tips.

I stopped by again yesterday, found 2 more pennies from the early '60s. I think you all are right about the trash, there is so much it might be masking something good.

thanks,
