I found this sign in the river while I was probing for bottles. It was about a foot in the sand and I thought it was a plate because I had my hand on the round part. I was prying it up trying to get water under it to get it to let loose and heard a cracking sound. After digging down and seeing just what it was I took my time and 25 minutes later this came out. When i was looking at it I seen that I broke the porcelain in between the top and the bottom piece and that was the cracking sound. (lesson learned). It's double sided and reads on the side property of the Indian Refining Co. Inc. sign 1-12-1927. Thought you might like to see it.

A very nice find! Congrats!

Very cool and in great shape too! Sounds like fun until the ground is soft again

That is fantastic!!! In such remarkably good shape for having been in the water!! Yeah, gotta be careful when you don't know the whole size, I bent a porcelain license plate once trying to pull it out, came out a lot worse than your sign.

Very cool sign, bet it didn't fit in your find pouch :laughing7:

Very neat relic. How long is the sign part roughly? Man, you can just find about anything in that river. They must have really used it as a landfill.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Anne the sign is 24" long and 20" tall in the middle and you just never know what you going to find.

Great sign, not what one would expect to find in a river.
