Went out in my yard again tonight. The black flies were absolutely relentless. I got an awesome mid 80s vdi about 5 feet from a big tree. I started to dig an got into a huge root. signal still very strong in the hole right under the root of course. i dug and scraped and dug some more. I took me 20 -30 mins to unearth a 4"x6" or so hunk of rusty corroded metal. Black flies had dinner on me while i was pre occupied. I almost went inside it was so bad but since i was only a few feet from the tree i told myself "ok just to the tree and thats it"

a couple of feet away i got another mid 80s strong signal and i thought........... its the other half of the junk i just dug up. But curiosity is a killer for me, so I hit the dirt..couple of inches down i got this "medal"? Keychain? coin someone drilled a hole in? I am still not sure but it comemorates the first stretch of turnpike toll highway into maine from Kittery to Portland. I googled it and this first peice was finished in 1947. Cool huh? I love it!
