A peculiar tool? Flat iron or steel shaped like lady's legs

A neighbor brought this over to my house and said "What is it?" I said "I don't know, but I bet I can find out."

I have no context, just what you see in the pictures.

I think it is called an inside caliper, it measures things like the inside diameter of a pipe, piston cylinder, etc.

These are modern calipers and they don't have measurements either.You take the reading then use a ruler to get your readings.

You take the measurement with the caliper, then use a ruler, measuring tape, micrometer, etc, to place the caliper on then read the measurment ,that's how you use it.

The tool is useful without having a measuring scale marked on it. It is used in many handmaking fabricating applications. Like to check size to an example or to transfer mirror measurement and such.

It's not what I posted, but I like it! So where do I order some, or do I have to fabricate them myself? I'd rather order 9556E2 for a buck than mutilate barbie dolls. . . My reputation in the neighborhood isn't good enough to survive being caught doing THAT!

They might have been used as woodworking lave calipers also... would have worked great in that application.

I know it's marked solved but there needs to be a small correction. It is called a divider not a caliper. Same purpose it is a tool for measuring.

MAN THAT IS A NEAT FIND INSIDE CALIPERS AND I WAS LOOKING TO BUY ONE TODAY FOR COPPER SCONCE WORK ..
