Hello everyone, I've had a heck of a week out swinging with my friend and new TNet member OFLSHAGS. Glad he's finally on board with us. Been detecting with him for about 3 years now. We've been hitting his permission which is an abandoned farm field. Its overgrown and we've been stomping down the tall grass with 2x4s and rope. I HAVE to say, it's paid off very well for both of us.
First time here last weekend, I got my first solid silver spoon bowl and silver #25 for the year.
After the spoon I looked down and my heart dropped... I see a glock sitting on the surface of the leaves. At this point I was 15 to 20 feet from the road in a wooded area. I pick it up (I always wear rubber gloves) and its just a C02 pistol. Take it over to SHAGS and he's digging a mason jar lid a 100 feet away. Then I look at his detector laying on the ground and see something. I pick it up and it's ANOTHER C02 PISTOL! He basically set his coil on top of it...
Definitely ditched after a robbery by some wannabe "gangsters" So sad.
Next time out was Wednesday. I managed an old buckle, an old bullet and my FIRST EVER US Large Cent. Toasted and I had no other choice than to soak it in lemon juice. The date did come out and it's probably a 1836 Matron Head.
I've been looking for a US Largie since I started detecting almost 5 years ago. Glad to finally check that off the list.
Yesterday, it was sleeting with high winds. Honestly, it was aweful but it wasn't with out good finds. SHAGS dug an awesome Drilled Shank Button from the late 1700s to early 1800s which is rare for us in Wisconsin. Check out his post. My second hole of the day, I had another large crusty copper. It was un identified until I put it in lemon juice. It ended up being a 1806 or 1808 KGIII.
Believe it or not this is my second KGIII. Keep in mind, I have only 4 IHPs and now 1 US Large Cent. What's up with that? My first KGIII was stolen out of my car So I'm glad to have another.
Today was cold but no wind. Managed 3 hours swinging the coil. It was a button day. First button was this awesome Gold Guilt Starbust patterned one. It cleaned up very nice. Can anyone tell what the back mark is?
Last button was my First Ever with a Drilled Shank. Its plain but it's a definate keeper.
This site has privileged us with many firsts and awesome keepers. Definately an old untouched site from early in our states history. I'm so greatful to detect here with my friend. I hope to keep hitting it with OFLSHAGS till the ground freezes this year. Lots of ground to cover. Sorry for the wordy post but I hope you all enjoyed it. Until next time stay safe and healthy and keep on swinging.
