Minelab X-Terra 50
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Different metals respond differently to frequency as does the ground. Higher frequencies respond better to small gold targets, but don't penetrate the ground as deep, while lower frequencies have better ground penetration, but aren't as sensitive to small gold targets.

For example. 18.75khz would be better for gold hunting while 7.5khz would be better for relics.

your 50 with the 18.75 would work well but most dedicated work around 48-50 khz. the mxt is 14khz and does great the xt70 do real good also but are set up with a prospect mode.

Drago:
Your X-50 is not a Gold Detector. It will certainly pick up SOME gold but it was not intended for that. You will notice it doesn't have a prospecting mode. Even the Ace 250 picks up an ocassional nugget but it can't handle the high ground mineralization that gold is usually found in. The X-70 DOES have a prospecting mode and handels gound mineralization quite well, I am told. My MXT also has a prospecting mode built in specially for nugget hunting. ALso Whites has the GMT gold hunting machine. Its not that expensive, if gold nuggets is what your into.

If you want an all around machine, then the MXT and X-70 are the machines you will probably want. The learning curve on the MXT is not that much. The learning curve on the X-70 from what I can see from the Free DVD MineLab sent me, is not really bad either. Maybe you can trade up?

Good Luck
