Hi all, just joined here today, have a short post about me in the new members forum if you care to jump over there and read it.
I have mostly owned & used Tesoro detectors but recently bought a used Teknetics Omega 8000 from NWI detectors and took it out for the first spin today since I got it. Sixty degrees and sunny is a great day for digging, you know? I didn't really know what I was doing with the new machine, but figured it out for the most part as I went along. I hunted a site that I've been to a few times over the years, so far it has yielded my oldest coin yet, which is an 1887 Indian head penny. I know, not very old but then we don't have really old coins for the most part.
My 4th target I hit on read nickel, but when I finally got it out of the ground, I thought it was another Indian head penny. It was well worn and corroded some, and has some crusty crud on the "head" side of it. Couldn't read the date on it either. Got it home and cleaned it up well enough to tell that it was my FIRST Liberty V nickel!!! Yehaww! Will definitely be hitting that site some more in the near future! I don't have the pinpointing down pat yet on this Omega so I managed to nick the coin on the side. Anyway, it felt great to get a first for me!
