DAY 1
I went back to camp for my weekly visit. I spent 6.5 hours swingin the CZ21 doing a tight grid on part of a site and a loose grid on the rest of the site. Not a lot of goodies, but I found 99 coins with a face value of $10.09, an older Cub Scout knife, 115 camp tent pegs, a heavy hammer, part of a fishing rod, 2 sinkers, a .22 slug, a luggage key, a 1950 Canadian penny, a carabiner, the usual camp junk and melted aluminum from the camp fires. Normally I find more coins than pegs, but not this time.

DAY 2
I had to take care of some errands so I only had 2.5 hours to hunt in the park closest to my house. I have covered all the high spots several times so I tried a few unlikely spots and got lucky. I found 41 coins with a face value of $3.00, a mystery coin, a peace sign bracelet, a toy soldier, a piece of a glasses frame and a few tabs and slaw.

I called this a mystery coin. It is silver dollar sized, 39 mm in diameter and 3.5 mm thick. It is not magnetic, but I’m not exactly sure of the metal. It could be badly eaten up copper or it could be a cheaper metal used in counterfeit coins. There is almost no details on the coin. I have taken close up pictures of both sides and circled the details. I want it to be a coin, but it could be a token or just a round piece of metal. If you have any ideas I welcome your input.

DAY 3
I went to the park by the pool and did some swingin with the CZ21 in 2 areas I have walked over several times before, but never gone over carefully. In 5 hours I managed to find 62 coins with a face value of $6.65 (good quarter and dime count), an old spoon handle, a decorative gas valve, an award pin, a ladies wrist watch, part of a harmonica reed, a Model T FORD hub cap, a 3 pound piece of lead drain pipe, a copper coil of some kind, cans, can slaw, lots of aluminum fence tie wire and a few tabs.

DSCN2594.jpeg

The pin is one I have found before. It is a PLAYGROUND ATHLETIC LEAGUE pin. The pin back is missing and it was made by the CHILDS CO CHICAGO. These pins are from the 1920s.

DSCN2595.jpeg

The copper wire coil is an interesting find. It has the wire wrapped round a rusted up metal core with a ceramic cap on the end. No idea what was used for, but it is interesting, any ideas? The lead drain pipe is easy to identify and it weighs a little over 3 pounds, so a nice piece to recycle. The Model T Ford hub cap is in terrible shape, but another interesting find this is the 5th or 6th one I have found over the years.

DAY 4
I went back to the school and gridded 2 sections. I spent 5.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and things were pretty quiet. I found a quarter on the surface and 1 dime, but the rest was fence wire, tabs, nickels and pennies for a long time. I almost gave up on the grid and went elsewhere, but I kept on going and it paid off. All together I found 36 coins with a face value of $1.21, a ring, a pendant, a decorative brass disk, tabs, fence wire, a can and can slaw.

DSCN2597.jpeg

The ring was a nice bonus. It is unmarked silver with an imitation stone made to look like Native American jewelry. It is adjustable so probably a kids ring.

DSCN2598.jpeg

The pendant was found just before the ring and was on the surface just under the grass. I got the sign, parted the grass to use the Garrett carrot and there it was. It has a ferrous bale and the rest is cheapie non magnetic metal. The brass disk was the last target on the end of my last grid. It was a weak signal about 10 inches down in hardpacked gravelly dirt. I believe it is a drawer knob escutcheon.

DSCN2597.jpeg

I did some walking at a different mall while we were shopping out of town and found a quarter and a penny on the floor. I checked the coin returns on 8 different machines and hit the jackpot in one, I found 10 quarters. The best quarter count in the past was 6 and my best number of coins in one machine 7 dimes, a nickel and a penny (9 coins total). I did find 2 dollar coins in one machine too a while back. So this beats them all.

DSCN2596.jpeg

So another week down and a lot more to go. The ring is my first silver of the new year (started May 1) so I am now on the board for silver and gold. The weather has been good so it won’t be long before I will be hitting the swimming areas to see what people are leaving behind for me. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.

Very nice finds. I'm digging an area, 170 acres to be exact. My metal detector (Garrett) goes off constantly, so I started using a screen & sifting, thank goodness I did, although a lot of work, but finding several coins from the 1800's, hoping I'll find a silver dollar or something better, who knows? Happy digging. 😆😆
