There might have been Mexicans living there. Really.

las cruces says it all....... illegals who come over leave all the trash and stuff and sleep on the ground. also no use for those pesos etc once in the states. that and tons of tourist who went to mexico and came back with change give it to their kids who in turn toss it. any tourist towns you will find coins other then ours. i find everything from canadian to german etc. traps were prob set around close while they slept. that or they were set by someone who got tired of them sleeping in their area.

I concur, but with a 1944 coin these would be old Mexicans by now. HMMM, old Mexicans in New Mexico? Something just doesn't jive.

You best do some more detecting to investigate this phenomenon. :)

Can't wait for them to become legal, so they can start losing zinc pennies. Have dug only one old Mexican silver, 1881 10 centavos, Thought it was a Seated Dime at first.

lol, the traps used 4 people? i donno, they shoulda used bear traps if they wanted to do some damage. my father used to trap in the area. now if you wanna talk trashy area/city, go visit el paso. crap everywhere, everywhere.
