Was out for a little bit today and found this item. It's about the size of a quarter, stands about a quarter of an inch high, and has the letter N embossed on the top of it. If it had been cloth, I would have guessed that it was a kids jungle hat, but it's metal, and appears to have been a cap off of something. Any WAGs out there?

Maybe one of these? Push nut to hold wheel on a wagon. Fancy "N" on it is interesting.

I think that you might be on to something here. Before I mark it solved, I'll see if someone else has another idea. Thanks

Neb, I agree with that assessment, but it would be key to know: is there (or was there) a tab (or tabs) on the inside of the reverse that would hold this onto a shaft/axle?
I'd guess off of a bicycle/tricycle/wagon?

Looks like the end and cap of of a tube. Used for tooth past or hair cream, lotion etc. They did not have plastic back when.

Yeh! Like maybe Noxema shave lotion.

Is there another letter mixed in or is it only a fancy "N"?

Agree, the hexagon shape may indicate lid could get stuck/tight based ingredient in container/tube. Glue, paint...

Very unusual 'N'. Company logo?

Any threads on the inside?

I cant see the bottom left of the N. Can you clean it? It may have another smaller letter.

Looks like it has "flats" all around the top much like you would need to use a wrench to turn it. Threads? Monty

Can that hex-shaped "N" portion be unscrewed from the main body of the whatsit? It actually looks a bit like the cut-off top of an early 1900's shaving cream or toothpaste tube.

I don't think that it's a top or cap off of a tube of something. There are no threads on the inside of it. The bottom of the piece, and you can see the lines on it, appear to maybe have been bent up at sometime or other, and then someone bent them flat.

I've tried cleaning it more, but it's as clean as it's going to get. Halfway up on the N there is a line across making a big A also. It's the same each way that you turn it. Those are the only letters.

No threads, and only other letter that can be seen, is a line half way up on the left leg on the N over to the diagonal line in the N making a capital A. There are no other letters anywhere on the piece. It will not clean up any better than it already is. Don't know what it was in, but it stained it very badly.

There are no threads on the piece, and the top part does not unscrew. It is a solid one piece item.

Halfway up the left leg on the N there is a line across to the diagonal line in the N making a capital A also. Those are the only 2 letters on the item.

You could be right, but if you are, I can't get it to unscrew.  I've even put it in a vise and tried to do it, and it just wouldn't budge.  I still think that it's a cap off of some type of tube ingredient, but just don't know.   I base this on the fact that the "cap" if that's what it is, doesn't lay flat on the base.

Does the initials N A or A N mean anything to anyone?
