My guess is that Mt. Clemens, Mich. is(was) a spa resort of some sort. Probably had hot springs nearby.

Hope it helps

Congrats on the silver and other goodies!!

Nice finds,

I love to hunt the woods

Ahh Merf, that fresh green that can only mean Spring! Congrats on the silver and neat Mt. Clemens token.

Did a quick search:

Located on the winding banks of the Clinton River, Mount Clemens offers its residents small town delights with the conveniences of contemporary urban life. Platted in 1818 by Christian Clemens, the son of a Mennonite farmer who was a conscientious objector in the Revolutionary War, Mount Clemens is the oldest community in Macomb County and the County Seat.

Healing mineral springs were discovered in 1862, giving rise to the City's illustrious bathhouse era which lasted from 1873 to 1940. Dubbed "America's Bath City," Mount Clemens soothed sufferers from around the globe who flocked to the more than 40 bathhouses and hotels to drink and bathe in the revitalizing waters.

Nice finds Merf, and looks like a great place to hunt.

Thanks to all and thanks to Michiganne for the great information on that token.
That mineral water sounds like good stuff.

Merf,
You have been finding some cool stuff. That token is the bomb! ;D
Congrats on the Merc too.

It seems like spas must have been a lucrative market. There are 3 or 4 within about an hours drive to me. Most are real good sites for finding that stuff between the 1850's (or earlier) and 1900.

The fad must have faded some since most of the Mineral Spring Spas have disappeared.

Maybe modern medicine had something to do with it.

Looks like where I was hunting yesterday. Only difference was the finds- no silver here. That's a nice 1919 merc. All the old date mercs I have are very worn.

Token sweet too.

Bob

Sounds like those bath houses were the thing to do back then.
I wonder if they changed the water between customers. ;D ;D
