thanks!!! the one on the left is a vitro...i dont know what that one on the right is!!! interesting...does those fractures follow the ribbon
???neat.....

Thanks for your reply! As far as the fractures go on the blue and white marble, under magnification, the "golden" streaks do appear to be hairline scores that are maybe filled with dirt and are especially prominent around the blue "eye" part. They do seem to follow the blue ribbon where it is thickest and then stop as the blue stops around the marble.

wild & crazy....marbles never fail to amaze me.....fractures like those appear if the marbles been heated in a fire [youve prob seen the crackle fried marbles that was the craze in the 60s] or accidently like a house fire or sumptin like that.... but never have i seen one follow a pattern like that....thats too kewl.......maybe the blue glass was a different type of glass of the base and held up better to the heat....was there any other indications of ashes or fire residue where you found these?? maybe it was a trash fire???

Thanks for all your help! They were found in a old garden area , so the fire theory would make sence to me. Like maybe hot ashes from a fire place geting dumped or maybe the garden being burnt off before spring planting.
