I love it when a plan comes together ! My Father owns 64 acres of farmland near the confluence of the Kennebec and the Sebasticook rivers that histrical evidence shows was cleared of lumber around 1750 and plowed for farmland by 1770 . Between my father and his father there has been a roadside farmstand down on the main road there for over 50 years ! I knew the history of the site went back further though . Being Literally my home site. Where I grew up . I have metal detected most of the grounds here since I took up the Metaldetecting hobby 7 years ago . My Uncle and my older cousins also cleaned up the silver and the clad from the farmstand area back in the late 80's early 90's ! I have never found a silver coin from my dads 64 acres . Last fall after talking to my dad about the property again . He remarked that his father told him there used to be an old buggy lane right along the property line that headed to the dam and the old pickle factory on the Sebasticook river where we dug a lot of bottles at back in the early to late 70's ! I hit this area last year which is where he plants his cucembers ! And came away with my earliest find from his land at that point . ! it was a watch winder key that I knew was early 1800;s . I told my father that he should deep plow the area along the property line where he thought the buggy trail ran . He did and then he harrowed it flat ! It was easy but tedious swinging ! But It ended up worth all the effort ! Our second Colonial find from our homeland . I realize it is only a button but guess What ! I believe it is over two hundred years old ! I am guessing 1770 - 1790 on the old big copper flat button. My oldest find from my dads property to date ! My dad was pretty impressed ! Then we went in the house and got to talking and he said you should take my old bottle books I think they are still down in the basement . We rummaged thru some of the clutterd mess in his basement and my father hands me these ! His old bottle books and subscripson to Old Bottle Magizine ! September 1969 to September 1970 . With a couple issues missing ! I remember looking at these as a kid ! 1969 is when I started digging at the tender age of eight ! My Dad had the treasure bug in the late 60's early 70's bottle craze ! I got a woody from these magizines back then and still do today ! A few feel good finds! One found and others Passed on ! Finds that connect the family can feel as good as the big $$$ finds sometimes ! Thanks for looking and happy treasure hunting ! MaineRelic
