You gotta think the silver disc is a half reale maybe, or a British 4 pence, endless possibilities!

wishing I could be out there too

Yeah, I think those are good possibilities. I may have found my 1st Spanish silver but I'll never know! Frustrating! The Rosie definitely threw me for a loop. I was finding all those flat buttons & saw that silver. I was thinking, "This has to be something old".... WRONG! Oh well, it's still silver.

That is a lot of flat buttons and then a Rosie. I see one of the other guys got a mercury dime. Mixed bag but that happens when the field has had a lot of people on it over the years. Farmers reach in their pocket and a dime falls out un noticed. I found a Barber quarter that worn with just a shadow of the head and date. For sure its not a GW quarter.

Really nice finds there Josh. That slick silver may indeed be a 1/2 reale. I have several that look just like it. Maybe you could measure the diameter and show a side view along with the dime for comparative purposes.

Nice finds!

Nice finds, to bad you can't tell what that coin is! Button finds are really cool. HH.

Bill, it is the same diameter as the dime, no reeded edge. I also forgot to include all the misc lead I found.

Nice finds Josh - from experience I can tell you that the most commonly found silver coin in that area is indeed a mid-late 1700's spainish half reale. If I dug what you had, that is almost certainly what I would suspect it would be. The misc lead items with holes are fish net weights. Also a very common find at coastal carolina sites.

Thanks for the input Dan. It probably is a half reale. Yeah, I have dug quite a few fishing weights down there. I'm always thinking "musketball!" until I see the hole...

Josh - I'd have to say i'ts most certainly a late 1700s half reale. Those were 17.7 mm in diameter vs 17.8 for a modern dime. Yours might be just a little thicker than I would expect for a well worn 1/2 reale as many of mine that are slick are a bit thinner. But I still say that's what you have there especially in light of some of the other accompanying finds. Congrats on your spanish silver!

Thanks for the info Bill. Now to find my first legible Spanish silver!

Sweet finds !

I too had that problem - (finding a slick silver ), but mine did not conform to the size of the dime , or quarter or any regular issue
U.S. coin - could be my first Spanish I real coin ?

Nice haul, Josh!!!
