Metal Detecting
After a decade missing the tiny glint of something silver peeping out of a freshly dug plug, he's back. Now that I'm retired I picked up the hobby again and realized just how much fun it was. Things changed a bunch since I last purchased my Minelab II and other detecting equipment; mainly PRICE and availability. I got sticker shock when I ordered my new E-trac and couldn't believe the difficulty locating a decent used X-1 probe for it?

Retiring I moved to Tennessee and got around to checking the MDing laws and was a little surprised how stringent the laws are on old coins and relics 100 years and older (1906 relic law). So it's mainly older city parks for me, and work up the courage to do some 'door knocking' at some historic looking homes; asking them if I can dig a bunch of holes in their nice manicured lawns and take what's in there. I wish I had some politician in me to spin my permission presentation.

Anyhoot, went out to the local park in the bad part of town the other day for the first time after my detector arrived. Nothing to write home about, but unearthed two silver Rosies and a Mercury dime & a few wheaties. Picked up my detector and limp swinging arm and made my way back home. In addition to the X-1 probe, a "swingy thingy' is in my near future before my arm becomes useless.

Wouldn't you know it? Get the bug to detect again and the ground and weather is going to prohibit my fun for awhile.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting...and while the ground "grounds" you from detecting you can perfect your politicians play on asking permissions....lol

Welcome to tnet from Maryland. Permissions and digging both are easier at farm fields; research lost home sites that are now plowed.

Welcome back to the hobby! :occasion14:

Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Forum:Tennessee for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome from North Central Illinois.

You're within driving distance from my old stomping grounds. If you ever get a chance to hunt some of the St. Louis area old parks (Forest Park, O'Fallon Park, Fairview Park, Jones Park, Il.) it might be worth it. You wouldn't believe the Mercuries, Barbers, Seated and Indians, rings and tokens I've pulled from them. Now the only thing around here where I moved to that's really old, is me.

Welcome back to the sport, hobby, illness or whatever it is and good luck.:icon_thumright:

Welcome to tnet from Mi Tommy

Welcome back to the sport from middle Georgia! Glad you have the time and ability to concentrate now on the important things, your happiness that is. The good things for you are that the equipment and resources have gotten better. In addition to the hardware, the T-net neighborhood gives you some great research partners for techniques with your new machines. you can also find new areas and maybe buddies if you desire to group hunt. Keep us up on your finds when the weather breaks, and once again welcome to the community!

Welcome!
