This is one of our common haunts, the old east river landfill. Talk about a bottle dump, the landfill occupies several hundred yards of terrain down by the Rio Grande, locally known as the glass graveyard it officially operated from 1920 to 1940 and is in places paved with glass broken, intact or bizarrely melted into novel shapes. The deposit of refuse is at least 4-6 feet deep and digging is HIGHLY recommended but in truth, all you have to do is walk slowly around with your eyes on the ground and you'll find your hearts delight worth in attractive vintage and antique glass in pristine condition. We've collected literally hundreds of cool little bottles from this site and only find more if we dare to return. Using a metal detector there has found a couple items but it's largely a goose chase, the ground there is more mineralized than a tailing pile. Today we fished out about 8 or 10 good specimens but I'll just post a few highlights here. If anyone can date these items more specifically than 1920-1940 then please do. That tiny Vicks bottle was the find of the day honestly....
