Got some time over Labor Day weekend to hunt some more around the old resort in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Before being a resort it was a lumber town/camp. Turned it into a resort when the lumber ran out.
It closed for good in 1970, and was later sold off in pieces to private owners.
This weekend I found a great deal of junque, but also a 1947 Roosie and a very old and small brass fishing reel. (No lettering on it anywhere, nor a maker's mark that I can find.)
UDATE: Found a trademark on it, but still no name. If anyone recognizes the mark please let me know! Also a photo added with the little bugger in my hand.
On returning home I went to the old fairgrounds, and found a Colgate toothpaste cap, or something? It says Colgate Co. New York.
The weather was awesome. I would have spent more time hunting, but was mainly up there to help work on my parents' house.
Good Luck,
Mark
UPDATE NUMBER 2!!!
So I got an answer about the origin of the reel! It is from a company called Abbey & Imbrie. The reel is from the 1880s or 1890s!
The collector that sent me the info said that in good condition it would be worth $150 - $200, or more. In the condition this one is in $50 or so. The Trademark was registered in 1877, and the company was bought out in 1930.
He says the reel is a very early model.
By some kind of coincidence the logging town I found it in was built about 1880. It later became a resort after the trees ran out.
Thanks for looking, again!
