Well, I crossed over the river into the Bluegrass State today for a little diggin'. My buddy has some in-laws with property out in the country. There was an old farm house on the site prior to the home they live in now. There's also a story about an engagement ring that was thrown out in the yard in anger way back when. The more I talked to the owner, the less excited I got. He said all the things we like to hear...."It was graded off after we tore the old house down" and "it had aluminum siding on it". I managed to pull out one silver dime (a 52D) and a 1959 memorial cent. Or, as I like to call them...The first edition Memorial cent. My Buddy was using my old Coinmaster. He found a '37 Wheat cent. I'm sure there were some keepers in that yard, but there was so much junk masking them. And you can't go shovel crazy in someones front yard digging everything up to get it out of the way.
Just before we had to go, I took a stroll through the cow pasture (insert joke here) and found an iron patch. I dug a very green piece of brass out of that area. I want to go back soon and hit that spot hard. Also, there's an old farm house nearby that he says he can get me permission to hunt. (see pic below) The large piece of iron in the pic is part of a monkey wrench, or pipe wrench. Large wrenches like these were indispensable for busting nuts loose, and this one almost claimed another victim today. :P It had a tree root growing through it, and was a little difficult to extract. If anyone can give me a little info on the rim fire cartridge, it would be appreciated.
Happy hunting, everyone. Tomorrow will be a beautiful day to hunt in this part of the country, but I'll be working.
