Yesterday I had a a chance to go back to the scout camp and do a little swingin. I was in a field on a hill where tents are not usually set up so I was expecting the usual change and a few tent pegs, but I got a little a little silver bonus. When it came out of the hole I noticed the edge was a little bit shiny so I gave the edge a rub and sure enough it was silver.

I ended up with 39 tent pegs, 117 coins ($13.65), 2 Boy Scout neckerchief slides, a stainless spoon, a few tabs, a Cinemark token, and miscellaneous metal.

I did find a nice coins spill. I got a nice coin signal, got the pinpointer into the grass, located the spot and stuck my trowel into the ground. As I pried up I saw a quarter so I picked it up and took the trowel out without the plug. I had a nice surprise when I looked at the trowel and saw this.

Seven more quarters that were dropped at the same time.

Thanks for looking and may your coil find good things.

Over 13 bucks plus a lil silver? Great hunting Mr. hunter!

Great idea on hunting that site, and great job getting so many finds - congrats! :occasion14:

How does one go about getting permission to hunt a scout camp? Here in Toledo, we have the 3rd oldest camp in the US. I'm an active assistant to my son's scoutmaster and he's high up on the council, so I may have an inside edge, but I'm willing to listen to advice to better my chances.

Congratulations on an excellent hunt, love them war nickels!!!

Dingode, I have been in the scouts a long time, have served on the Camp properties committee and spent many hours helping at camp in my old council. The new Camp director worked with me at the old council so when I asked and promised to return all the pegs I found he was happy to say yes. I have a few hoops to jump through, like when I can detect and who I have to notify, but I am happy to comply to get the right to detect there.

Promise to operate within their guidelines and help clean up Camp and I am sure they will say yes.

The Camp I am detecting is a large one, but it opened in 1980 so the only old things I find are from the farm that was here before they made the Camp. I have found less than a dozen silver coins and rings since I started here in 2013, but I have returned over 7,800 tent pegs and have found over 21,000 coins. If your camp is older and well used you could be looking at a great opportunity.

Good luck with your request. And keep swingin.

Very nice finds. I always like to find the Neckerchief slides from the Boy Scouts.

Hi, nice hunt with some nice finds. Congrats:icon_thumleft:
