A little research scores me some silver** First silver find

HUGE CONGRATS! :hello2: :occasion16::wav::occasion16: :hello2:

Your beautiful 1886 silver has fabulous detail! And your worn Walker is sweet -- just think how many years and hands that coin passed through before it was lost! Your search for old spots paid off wonderfully -- what a beginning! And spot #2 may turn out fabulous also. HAVE FUN! Andi

How did you go about finding old spots? I have been detecting for about 3 years and have never found anything silverr, despite digging every (non-false) signal, research at the library that consists of old maps, historic documents, and old newspaper scans, and even going to detect old wagon roads and homesites, as well as the only old park I could find in my area, which has been a fairground since 1946.

I hope my new detector, a Coinmaster GT will change this. It is not that my (old) detector cannot find silver, it picks up on morgan dollars at 7", and a silver dime at 6 in air tests, and it is not that others have already gotten all the treasure, as there are not any detectorists in my area other than that one kid (about 6 yeard old) I saw once with his Tracker IV or other radioshack detector in the volleyball pit.

So could somebody assist me in my research? Don't worry, I won't come to your state to detect, at least for a while, as I'm only 15.

Oh, and REALLY nice job on your coins!!! That is a really nice spot, and you are lucky to have discovered it first.

Nice job on the coins!:icon_thumright: I don't know, but I've always had better luck on deep targets in my area after a good rain and the soil is wet. Congrats!

Now that's getting off to an epic start amigo ! It's tempting to say "It's all down hill from your very first silver find " but of course I
don't believe that !!! Go get some more !

That's the way to do it!

Great job on the silver coins. I'm still looking in my area for that kind of coinage as it was starting to be settle here in the mid 1800's.

Congratulations......now that is one heck of some finds!! A little research and a lot of diggin payed off:icon_thumleft:. Happy for ya......

Nice finds. Your research paid off.

Sweet Morgan!!! Cool half too!!

Nice Morgan!! Where in South Fl you at? Cant be too far from me.. IM in Palm Beach Gardens

After about a week of striking out with the new 705, I decided to look for old spots in town, well it paid off

find #1 was about a foot below a empty Bacardi mini bottle

and not 5 feet from that I scored a half dollar also, very worn but date says 1918 I think

I will hit this spot again early tomorrow...really glad I didn't go with spot #2

ok so that is a walker,i wasn't 100%,as far as finding this spot it is right in the open, and yes I got 20 lbs of aluminum cans/garbage too,i just got tired of walking the beach,so I looked up the oldest settlements and went from there, this site also has garbage too,so something I started doing was do a prerun cleanup then go over again, also we just had some major flooding down here I think it loosened up the soil

learning together is way too cool

Way cool find, I want to find a Morgan, What mint is it, the mint mark would be on the back.

I don't think you should bother with getting it graded- it doesn't warrant that until you get to a full M.S. 60 on up - even from the
one photo of it we can agree it doesn't make "mint state" . It is however a special find !

Already finding silver!
Glad to see that 705 is quickly doing well

Slowwevo , I can see that you have a lot of detail , but unless I'm misreading the photo you provided (I'd like to see some more -front and back !! )
I also am seeing a lot of scratches and nicks over the entire surface too - an "uncirculated " coin , MS 60 on up - can have a few contact or bag
marks - but they have to be few and faint . Please help us out with some good solid pics of your coin !

I just looked at the "Redbook " for U.S. coins and according to their definition of MS 60 - I might have been a bit hasty,
"No trace of wear . Full mint luster present , but may be noticeably marred by scuff marks or bag abrasions ."
(the full mint luster may be what's missing here )
