Yep it's been awhile but it finally showed up again. Also got me another early thimble today as well. The finds came slow at this site and not much to the rest other then another nice piece of flint from a musket. But considering the weather here today I happy with them.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

When you dig old targets on a regular basis it never takes too long to finally hit a keeper!

Thanks IP, I was just looking at some of my other cut pieces trying to figure why the funny cut on this one. :icon_scratch: Makes it a little different at least.

That's what I'm talkin about :headbang: :headbang: Weird cut on that little guy, but looks like you got about a 1/4 of a 2 Reale.. weigh it compared to a regular shaped 1/4, looks close.. glad to see things back on track in colonial NC :headbang:

Sweet finds Pete :icon_thumright: Congrats!!!

1R 1733 S-PA Philip V new plate "Cross" real (Seville, Spain)

Obverse: [six petal rosette] PHILIPPUS [rosette] V [rosette] D [rosette] G [rosette]
Reverse: HISPANIARUM [rosette] REX [rosette] 1733 [rosette]

Weight: 41.5 g (2.69 grams) Diameter: 20.3 mm

Comments: This is a "new plate" coin minted in Spain. New plate refers to the 20% reduction in the value of reals minted in Spain in relation to the reales minted in colonial Spanish America. This variety of coin was frequently called a "cross" real in the British colonies to distinguish it from the more valuable "pillar" real minted in the Americas.

On the obverse to the left of the crowned Hapsburg arms of Spain there reads, from top to bottom: . R [cinquefoil] S . and to the right: . I P A . ; this is read across as R I, for the denomination of one real. The lower letter on the left is the mintmark for Seville and two initials on the right P A, are the initials of the assayers Pedro Remigo Gordillo and Antonio Montero whoworked together from 1731-36 (see, Pellicer i Bru, Glosario, pp. 48 and 171).

They used to break the coins on purpose - that's why they called them 2 reale, or 4 or whatever. Its where the "2 bits" saying comes from.

That was someone's "change".

I like the thimble - and, believe it or not - I like that piece that looks like an old tile - is it? (I like old tile)

I knew it in a huge Colonial way, Pete. :notworthy: I told you that you were due for a nice cut silver in NC. It is a beauty, my friend. With all of these Colonial relics you are digging, it is just a matter of time before you flip another one out of the muck. :icon_thumleft:

Kirk :hello:
