Looks like it says PATENT or PATENTED.

What type of metal is it?

Can you give us a better indictation of the size?

Its another broken lock plate cover.

Swings & covers the old lock key hole.

The round part of it is about the size of a quarter. It's most likely copper or brass. Here are a few more pics, front and back. Back of it is flat except for that gouge in it which appears to be corrosion.

Have to disagree.

See my similar lock plate cover with crown & Initials of King (and PATENT), in your case the Queen.
I have found many of these identical to the one pictured (athough most of mine were complete).

Although mine is a different shape, they vary over time. 100% sure.
