Dug this one awhile back, just not sure how old. :dontknow: 066.JPG067.JPG

Is that traces of black I see on the button? If so it would date between 1910 and 1923.

OK I have to backtrack a little. I know the black on the buttons is attributed to the Army Great Seal button from 1910-1923, but I am not positive that it applied to the Marines.

I don't know either, but that is an 1870-1890 backmark.

Would you please give me the reference you used? The way I read McGuinn and Bazelons book the "Waterbury Button Co. Conn" is post 1900. I do not doubt you, I just need educated on this.

Thanks man. It's weird cause it came out of a union campsite. It has a really old patina on it, but I wasn't sure about the back mark.

Not that I'm aware of. No traces of paint or gilt left on this one
