A little,"Big Silver" and LOTS of copper

Got out with oxbowbarefoot yesterday for a full days hunt,REAL nice chap!!Got the Walker in an old hay field and a few buckles, next, the what's it,"copper over steel" and hull at an old cellar hole, strange caliber to me,last, the copper wire across the river from an old paper mill. The other 30 ft. are outside, all weighs 13lb.,not bad for just laying there!! The reverse of the Walker is why I'm getting a probe for Christmas!!!!!!! This PI$$es me off more than anything!!! I,m just glad it wasn't a key date!!!!!!!!! God Bless HH Chris

Re: A Little Silver LOTS of copper

The .38-55 is an old loading and that one was made by Winchester. Nice finds...d2

Re: A Little Silver LOTS of copper

Don't worry too much about scratching the Walker Half Chris, we've all done this at some point! :BangHead:
Once you get a probe, you'll certainly reduce the chance of this happening . . . but it'll still happen! :laughing7:
I really like the buckles, very nice Chris!

Take care bud,
Dave

That is a nice walker. Any time you dig a silver half it is a great hunt.

What an awesome time! It was great to hunt with you, and congrats again on the Walker :icon_thumright:
Here are the pictures of Worldtalker recovering his half from the ground, and an interesting find we had in the woods.

Re: A little Big Silver LOTS of copper

One of the early chambering's of the model 94 Winchester rifle and carbine was 38-55 among others, 30-30 being the most common. However, both of the single shot models of the 1885 Winchester hi-wall and the low-wall model were also chambered in that caliber. Locally there are two hi-walls for sale, one in 45-70 and the other in 38-55. He's asking darn near 2 grand for the 38-55, which puts it out of my range. A few years ago Winchester started once again chambering model 94's in 38-55, and you could buy the newly loaded ammunition over the counter. However, Winchester started using the headstamp WRA Co in 1866, and stopped using that headstamp in 1932, when they started using WRA.

BosnMate, Thanks for the crash course of the 38-55.
