This piece is very familiar to me, but I just can't place it.

The last pic is where I scratched the edge. Shiny, silvery underneath, seems soft enough yet kinda harder than
I expect for lead. Non-magnetic and this little thing weighs in at a full 1/2 pound!

The larger hole is tapered.

What did they make out of lead like this?

Looks like something that slipped over a car battery terminal - but I won't know why.

looks like a old battery post that was soldered on. The cable would be soldered in to the clear hole

These are all good guesses. I could see how it might would fit on a battery post. Or how it might be something for wiring on one.

But, it's seems so big! A HALF pound!??? Also, I can't figure that recessed area. :dontknow:

back in the day batteries were big and lead is heavy . Could have been a big truck battery

I work on electric forklifts. When a cell in the battery is replaced the new bridge made of lead has a recess in it. When you place it on the battery post you heat the post up and fill the recess with lead.

You know after I looked at the pic again I could see how this could be a battery post connector . Really did not take time to see what was in the hole but it looks like ridges so I do think that pkb may be on to something.vanzutphen
