Ok here is My stumper....
This was found in the water at an 1850's site, so I'm thinking it is of marine application of some sort.
The pictures are as it came out of the water and no further "cleaning" will be done to preserve the patina.
It is not a dinner plate.
The disc measures 9" from edge to edge.
The edge is a double roll.. folded over 1/8' and than folded up another 1/8 at a 90. so a finished edge.
The rim/brim is 1 1/4" and raises 3/4" to the 6 3/4" center.
There is evidence of some sort of plating in a silver color.
There are no holes where it may have been attached it to anything.
As pictured it has a faint strip on the 3/4" raised part that may have been to "glue" it into something.

Any help with an ID would be great.
I have my own thoughts as to what it may have be or come off of, but I will withhold it until you have given me a few of your thoughts.

I know someone out there has seen these before.
Thanks

Probably as good a guess as anything. Maybe a drip pan for a hall tree or umbrella stand.

I wish I could tell you more but....I found one identical made of copper at a site that was abandoned by 1853 and a VERY knowledgeable friend told me it was an early boiler plate whatever that means?

Thank you all for your ideas and replies.
It does look like it maybe a dinner plate, but the raised rolled lip makes me think that would have faced that side down and sat more like a hat.
As to it being a communion plate or a Paten used during mass, They were usually precious metal or at least plated with precious metal.
It does have plating left on a portion of the flat rim, but it looks more like a tin plating.
My thought was that it may have been used for bulk transport of liquids, possibly in a container like milk.
If you look at the raised 3/4" part it looks like it may have been glued or sealed around that raised part into another container.
Don't know... This may be one of those "what's it's" that never get solved.
Thanks again...
