as it wasn't a Hunt.

After I left there I decided to Hit a New Grove I located.
Started as a Church Grove in 1916

When I got there I saw a Few People under a Pavilion
which Disappointed me but Decided to give it a try anyway.
As I was Hunting More & More Cars came unloading
Kids and people So I confined myself to a small area in the corner
and turned my disc all the way up, as to make a quick
30 minute survey and split.

while there I got

$1.17 Gas Rebate and a few relics.

Also dug alot of Melted Metal that came up as Silver
So I'm sure this place isn't hunted well if at all
But will probably need to wait till School starts.

Jeff, I'd rather find a ring like that than a silver. . . soooo much history

Nice Finds! I REALLY LIKE that Engineers Buttons!!!! Nice Find!

The button appears to be a c. 1820's-30's U.S. Army general service "Great Coat" button.

Great ring!!!
Are you going to try to clean it???
Can you tell what is inside it?

There is a Pad inside it.

From what I can tell it is ink Pads.

The pencil was probably white Wax
so when you wrote on paper & slide it
through the Ink pads words would appear.

not sure if it will clean much better.
I believe most of the gold color is Worn off

After looking at that and Closer at Mine,
I think I can see a U
most of the back is either worn
or needs electrolysis.

THANKS !

Pretty close, I think.

Tumbusch's book on premiums describes it as a "Magic Ring w/wax pencil."

Hake's book says, "Portrait cover opens over two miniature felt pads. Came with magic pencil and chemically treated paper strips."

So, evidently it didn't use ink, but some sort of chemically reactive paper (maybe litmus). The wax of the writing would prevent the chemical in the pads from penetrating the paper beneath it, so that the writing would remain white while the rest of the paper darkened.
