They are worth their weight in gold as a keepsake, given to you by your grandfather! I would never part with them.

I agree. If you grandfather gave them to you, never part with them. You could try a local college or university to see if a geologist on staff would be willing to, at least, identify them correctly for you.

I see some amethyst, agates, maybe carnelian, tigereye, obsidian or apache tears, all nice examples of various stones. The one that interests me is the small pinkish one left of center that has a cubic/ diamond shape. It could be a corundum (ruby). Probably not a lot of monetary value, but a good little collection.
