Went ona short sample hunt at a local elementary school. Itched all week to get there. Had done a job at the local university's student union and got to talking with one of the guys there. He took me to the library and told the librarian what I did for a hobby. She said "oh, wait here" and a couple of minutes later she came back with some microfiches. THEY WERE AERIAL PHOTOS OF OUR WHOLE COUNTY FROM 1939!!!! It was a farmland survey.
I looked at the area that I live in and saw what looked like a horse race track. Asked around during the week but nobody seemed to know anything about there having been a racetrack there. Now on that site there is the elementary school and their sportsfield. What used to be the open field parking is now under housing What looked like a concession stand is buried under a landslide... (Does anyone else feel like you always find out about good spots too late?) I still need to do some research on the Sanborn maps...
The school grounds are closed to the public from September to mid-June but I was very lucky...a school district contractor was there working and he told me to "have at it". Alright!
Well outside of that it was a pretty ordinary hunt. Lots of trash, some clad (nothing older than 1979). Then towards the end out popped this thing. Only at about 3 inches. I dont know if they are real diamonds yet. I am hopeful though since the setting is open underneath. I have been told that that increases my odds of them being diamonds. (Dont know if its true or not...) The ring itself is not gold or silver. No markings on the inside. But the price was right...
Thanks for reading the ramble and HH.
