I was able to enjoy my Sunday back at the early 1900's house where I dug the General Service button about a week ago.
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,429083.0.html

This time it was a lot cooler so the mosquitoes let me be. I gridded off the whole yard this time but I discriminated out all the crappe' and just went for silver and copper coins and anything else that happened to give me a signal at that setting. I pulled another 13 Wheat pennies this trip, and the funny thing was out of 13 there was only two with the same date. How weird is that? ;D
Scored another Merc dime by the front porch, and a lot of other oddball relics including a toasted 5 Franc aluminum coin (1947-1959).
I was hoping there would be some coins laying with the old change purse frame, but no such luck. :(
Other relics were: cosmetic tins, Ford key, valve stem, two small buckles, large 30mm button (?), etc.
Unfortunately, everything seemed to fall into the 1940's era at this place. The grass on the other 8 acres was just too tall to detect in. Oh well, I gave it a shot.

Thanks for looking,
MM

Great job MM you pulled some nice old items there !

Nothing like Whole wheat! :laughing9:
Great hunt Dug, still waiting for you to look me up when your passin thru.

You obviously made a thorough search there DUG. A very nice assortment of finds. I hope you didn't try that rouge on-LOL. That's not the same house where you were attacked by bees or yellow jackets is it? HH, Q.

Your change purse mouth is probably a "chain mail" purse that was popular with the flappers in the 20s. It fit with the "minimal" styles that were so popular. It had a long, very thin chain that went from the shoulder to above the hip, and the purse was about 6-8 inches by 4 inches more or less, but a lot of different styles. The "mouth" was the most important part of the decoration. Many of them were made of hundred of little bits of chain hooked together. It made a lovely purse. Some were maybe more in the "beaded" relm. Probably, the purse was rotted away, or so much so you may not have even noticed it when you were diggin. I got lucky, mine was still attached in a couple of places, but everytime I bring it out, I loose a few bits of it. Mine had little squares connected onto the chain mail that made it look like some serious snake skin. Look for a name on it. Mine had one and there was a lot of information about it. Sorry, I couldn't find a lens to read it tonight.

Q-
I'm saving the rouge for a special weekend. :laughing9: No, this wasn't the attack of the bees spot, but thanks for reminding me. I need to get back over there again now that it has cooled down.

Great info. Thanks HPD.

No name on mine that I could find.
Thanks again,
Dug

Welcome back HB. :hello2: Great to hear from you again. We'll get together some day. My last few trips I flew instead of driving. A lot shorter that way. :tongue3:
Thanks,
Dug
