A great day. (Powder Flask)

Today, I was on the hunt of a civil war Union Calvary camp. This is a mixed site that is mostly homesite. I managed a ton of firsts. Which included a steel wheat penny, a bat wing from a carbine sling and a HOLE POWDER FLASK!! The flask came from over 12" deep and Was amazed it. I never know what to write about when I share these post. I hope you enjoy.

I believe the button is a civil war period marine button, I'm not 100% though.

That is a fantastic day! What did the steel penny ring in at? I use AT Pro so please give a VDI number of what it sounded like, ex: bottle cap, aluminum foil, bottle cap, etc. The only steel penny I have found was in my brothers change drawer, havent found one while metal detecting though!

The steel penny was in a wheat spill. That's the only way I would have found it.

Your powder flask would clean up great with the toothpick method to remove all the dirt, then rubbing a finger lightly over the high points to bring out the detail.

I also like the four leaf clover looking engraved decorative item.

Here you go. I can't figure out the back mark. But I believe it is a MC209As2 in Tice's book. It's cool, still has red thread/cloth on the back.

Check it out!!!!!! I found the top of the flask too. It was in my pack I dug it out a hundred feet away and remembered thinking what is this thing? NEVER THROW ANYTHING AWAY!
