Well Rootmaster and I met up with McEtrac on Saturday for a hunt in the city. After seeing what this park has produced for others this year, I had high hopes of digging some oldies. My DFX was having a hard time keeping up with the 2 Minelabs on deep coins and I was getting pretty discouraged. So as the sun set and it was getting hard to see a coin in the hole, I decided to walk over close to the main road. I guess I was hoping to get knocked unconscious with a thrown bottle and have my DFX swiped. (This way I could justify my new E-trac purchase to the wifey.) No sooner was I in position ready for the impact of shattering glass, I got hit with a solid dime signal with absolutely no trash around it. Turned out to be my oldest find yet, a 1891 Seated.

Re: A great day at Goioington Park!

Just incredible! When you told me you got silver, and when you thought it was seated I was like NO FREAKING WAY MAN!!!! I had to go back to double up on high fives! That's just insane. I just wish you could have found that in the morning, to give you that great feeling all day. But it's ALWAYS ON WAY BACK!!! lol. Well that was a very luck last ditch effort to find some goodies, that's for sure. And it paid off! Let's see the back of that beauty.

Re: A great day at Goioington Park!

Beautiful dime you got there man, Congrats!!! That park just keeps on giving! :icon_pirat:

Re: A great day at Goioington Park!

Well, if that hunt effectively ended the season for you, what a way to go out! Wow! Seateds are definitely not easy coins to find, even at Goio Park. I'm still waiting on my first one. I think I'll eventually find one in some old woods, because for the most part, the separation on the White's is inferior to the separation on the Minelabs. Some may argue all they want but it's true. And Goio Park is pretty trashy. It's so cool you got it in that clean spot. How deep was it? And what VDI did it come up as?

Congratulations!

Joe

Thanks Greg! About 2 minutes before I found it, RM had shown me where you pulled the Barber and Merc. It was about 20' from there and last coin of the day.

Thanks Joe! It VDI'd at 79 running Best data. Believe it or not it was only an inch down in powdery dirt, which resembles chocolate cake mix as it comes out of the box. I could have dug it with a finger. Thought it was just a new clad and started rubbing it 'cause I couldn't see FDR's head. :o When I finally realized some chick was sitting there looking at me I thought it was fake or something. My head was spinning on an Adrenalin rush. :tongue7:

Re: A great day at Goioington Park!

An inch? Jeez! Between that shallow dime and the shallow 64 Rosey Rootmaster recently found, I've now learned to dig all the dime signals. No messing around anymore! That is exceptional. Nice job.

Re: A great day at Goioington Park!

Congrats on that rare and beautiful find!!!

Wow, and only an inch down. That just goes to show to dig 'em all. I bet a lot of people
walked right over that and thought clad.

Talk about ending the season on a high note. Now
you'll be chomping at the bit to get out there when it thaws.

I was thinking about going down there yesterday, but my old school Fisher 1266 just doesn't
get along too well with the Minelabs. I can't hunt within 10 or so yards of TreasureFiend and his
SE without constant interference. Hopefully in the Spring I'll have something a little more compatible
(ETrac) with you guys.

Mike

PS. What was that guy who hunted for 15 years using?

I'm thinking that someday I will buy a Minelab for the old parks. I know for sure that the White's cannot keep up with the big boys at Goio Park and other old trashy parks. HOWEVER- I have grown quite attached to the M6, and since I love hunting the woods more than anywhere else, it has served me better than I ever expected. It's like the damn thing was designed for the woods. It's pretty damn accurate on nickels, for the most part, and it's gotten me coins from 9 inches down. Not as deep as the Minelabs, but deep enough for that special place where the old coins are rarely deeper than that- woods!

Before I pick up a Minelab land detector, I'm definately going to get an Excal. July in the woods is no fun!
