The first fair in my area was held in the 1850's in a small town about 10 miles from here. I've found the location in an 1878 atlas from the library. I've studied the map, found it on a satelite map (terraclient), asked various people who might know and also drove by there.

Now, get this: Last night, while driving through this town, I asked my husband to drive by the area where the fairgrounds are. I wanted to check out what was planted in the fields to see if I could detect them. In the middle of these fields is a farmhouse with a barn. I wasn't ready to ask permission yet cuz I'm still learning my DFX and would probably wait until fall or spring when the fields aren't planted. So we didn't stop and ask. I do know that people call this area "the strawberry fields".

OK now get this: My son had some friends stay the night last night. One is a young man who I've only met once before. We started talking about things that were happening in this town this weekend. I asked him where he lived. He said by "the strawberry fields'. IT'S HIS HOUSE THAT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AREA WHERE I WANT TO DETECT. He was all excited when I told him about the fairgrounds. I even had some copies of the old map of his town that I let him take to show his father. He said there would be no problem detecting those fields and the strawberry crops are rotated every year so the land surrounding his house should be ok to detect.

How's that for a coincidence??

This is why I talk about MDing to almost everyone I meet. It's amazing the information, contacts, ideas, permission, and weird looks ;D you get when you bring up this hobby.

That sounds like a promising site,Cant wait to see posts. Good luck.

I was told about a small picnic grove in a nearby town by an elderly man. I had never seen this mentioned anywhere. But he told me exactly where it supposedly was. There is a farmhouse close by. Had not had the time to knock on the door.

My wife decided to have my son take some extra trumpet lessons. From one of the schools music teachers. I drove him to his first lesson. Give you one guess what house I went to!!! Have not had the time yet to hunt it but it I will shortly. Just not sure of the accuracy of the info.

It's exciting coming up with new places to hunt. Good luck. I hope you find the picnic grove. They're supposed to be one of the best places to hunt.
