A few weekends ago I was poking around a newer park in the area that is on old colonial farmland. It's where I found the rosette that I posted and asked for help identifying. I was also joined for a Sunday morning hunt this day by brianc053, who is a great guy to hunt with for the record lol. After Brian headed home I dug a keychain, complete with keys and a skull and crossbones dog tag attached. There was a name and number on the tag so I called the owner from the parking lot and left a voicemail. The owner called back sounding skeptical as you might expect. When I described the key chain he got a little excited, and remembered exactly where in the park he lost it. He asked that I mail it back to him after exchanging a few texts. When I mailed it, I wrapped the keychain in my self promoting print out that I use when trying to gain permissions, and left it up to him. A few days later I got a text thanking me for the return, and an invitation to hunt his property (also in the OLD colonial area near the park). We booked a day, then he cancelled the next day. I figured he changed his mind and I'd never hear from him again. So Saturday I was just getting set up at a site owned by my brother-in-law when I received a text from the guy saying, my plans for the day changed, come on over. I loaded back up and headed to his house. The first thing he did was show me pictures of the dog (no longer with us) and explained why the tags were so important to him, they rescued "Dora" at age 11 from an abusive situation and only had 2 years with her, but the dog was special to them.
So I spent a few hours on his property hoping to find colonial relics or coins. I didn't find anything that old but I did find 2 merc dimes and a silver Roosevelt dime, along with the other items in the picture. The other coins are clad, but every penny was a wheatie. All in all a great story, great return of meaningful property, and a half decent day as far as finds went. I wanted to share this for the good of the group. Thanks for reading!!!!!!!!!!!!
