A golden colored flowered "cheerio"
I found this artifact a long time ago and never have figured out what it could have been a part of or used for. I just kept it with my buttons, since it was the same size as many of them.
Today, I got it out and gave it another good look over, decided to weigh it, 5.06 grams, heavy little thing, did a Specific Gravity test on it and it appears to be closest to yellow brass (copper/zinc) with a s.g. of ~7.82. The size? Same as a CHEERIO!!
Both sides are identical, I see not where it could have been attached to anything else and I estimate the age of the homestead where found as being occupied in the early to mid 1800s but abandoned prior to CW. So, not sure if it is that old, but flower designs sure were popular on a lot of things back in the 1830 era, which is prime time occupation period for that homestead.
So, not sure what it is, jewelry, if so how used back then, or some other decorative piece or part of something....................
