Hello all! Getting this out in advance of my new finds video... so I was at a plantation site in Louisiana today and I’d dug a baby ring (Brass) which was civil war era, some bullets and a Maynard carbine casing... then I almost fell over when this came out of the ground. I was like, no way this is gold, no way...

I swished some water over it and became even MORE convinced! And it is Heavvvy!

Now what on Earth is this doing at a plantation site??! Obviously there isn’t gold like this to be found in Louisiana. Mainly flake gold in tiny quantities hundreds of miles away from here. So it didn’t wash into this area. There aren’t even rocks here, only silt and mud! So this has to have been in someone’s pocket or “poke,” and traded through the port of New Orleans during the gold rush—as a lot of gold did do!

Back home I swiped it under the F75 coil and it reads 49-50. Would be curious to know if anyone has a comparably sized nugget they’d be willing to beep on their F75 and let me know what it reads.

Took a toothbrush and some water to it and it’s so bright the camera won’t even focus. Weighs almost 3 grams.

That's a super great find. More than likely it was brought in from another place. Someone's lucky item or part of a mineral collection, or just golden money.

I agree with you, seems like there’s no way it came from here originally. I’ve been surprised down here lot...from digging a GW inaugural here to seeing two colonial French swords dug and more... it’s just impossible to know what will turn up next

Thanks for the replies my friend. Still hoping for that gold coin here. We are long overdue. Have dug 100 Spanish silvers and 140 seated coins, along with at least a dozen capped bust. 334 total silvers so far from these fields.

Perhaps 2021 will be the year.

Unusual find for sure! Wonder if ever one of my lead blobs turn into a gold nugget... Congrats, one step closer to the gold coin! :icon_thumright:

Congrats on the Nugget Buckle Boy, a great way of ending the season off.

Finding it in the raw is a rarity, only once have I seen some, and my brother got some sheet (nugget hammered flat) out of a foundation rubble in a ghost town out west in the 70's.

You just do beat all! Never can tell what you're going to find!

So maybe this is how the Louisiana Gold Rush starts! :occasion14:

Wow! I didn't expect to see a find like that from Louisiana! Big Congratulations! Thank you for sharing with all of us!

Congrats on an amazing find! That stuff just doesn't crawl outta the ground... wow, very nice!
Lady Luck seems to be in your neck o' the woods...
