Went back to same spot after work and found a nice flake and a rock. Now I'm asking ya'll, if you found this rock would you think it's a tool or not? As it's drying out the plant fossils are beginning to show up on it but since it's quartz I can't tell if it's a tool.

Here's 3 views of the flake:

The Rock has the right shape but no signs of use at the edge or flattened wear marks... Looks natural to me.

I don't see anything that looks like it was used on the big rock. Certain areas around here are full of rocks like that. Sometimes you'll find them on camp sites that were used as hammer/pecking stones. The green flake looks like solidified siltstone.

I do find rocks that resemble tools sometimes but not often, then again it's a good sized area where I hunt and most of it underground where I can't go and have to wait for it to wash out into the creek. I think the flake may be argillite as it's the same color and texture as a point I found a couple years ago. Thanks lots for your input, it's really appreciated!

really guys? the bigger end looks pounded to me...can we see it better?

A better pic would help but for a Quartz hammerstone would expect a lot more cracking... You could be right.

Thanks for the pics I still have to side with Mother Nature on this one IMO

I did want to say.......my what pretty nails you have ;)
The flake is interesting but dont see any edge work on it but gives hopes of something else washing out.
The rock could of been used but with the line I see in it. It isnt worn down if it was a grinder the end with the natural line would be worn smooth. It shows some dark brown patina which I have found on grinders in the past. If it was a fire rock it would be a darker color imo changed from the heat so I dont think that would be it either.
If it was a hammer there would be some damage on the ends not all show much damage but I see none.
I believe it is to big to be a pecking stone and looks to be a sandstone to quartzite material which is a very dense and heavy stone. They did use those types for tools so it is the rite type. After giving all of these reasons I have to agree it wasnt used and is probably natural. You could always save it and take it to a artifact I.D. and see what they say. Not all pics can reveal everything.

Yep thinking it's just a nice cobble faking me out as usual and will be one of them that border my lavender garden. Thanks to all for their opinions! much appreciated and respected.
