I had a great day today with a bunch of firsts for me:
My first yes on a permission led to my first...
Barber dime 1898
Buffalo Nickel ...I can't see the date
Indian Head Penny 1889 ...this was my favorite find of the day!
horse shoe
shot gun shell w.o. co. report #12
old lamp part

Tons of fun digging and a sunny day off of work...hard to beat. The owner was a little skittish when I asked and I needed to meet him at the property at a set date and time...but it was worth it! I made sure to give him a couple of my cards and told him that if he ever needed me to try and find something he had lost all he had to do is call. I have a couple of leads on a few more choice spots and after this hunt I will have no problem walking up to their doors and asking :)View attachment 1188268View attachment 1188270

I also found an old axe head and a hand plane blade that I gave to the owner along with the lucky horse shoe.
Thanks for looking and happy hunting

oh boy, bitten by the permission bug!
youll never want to hunt any other way

congrats on all your firsts!!

Wow Pinball you killed it today. 3 nice firsts in one day!!!! You were mentioning that you never found an IHP before. You get it in your mind, think today is the day and " TA-DA", there is the coin you've been wanting to pull from a plug.

Awesome day:thumbsup:

Wow! Nice group of old coins found for sure. Like the old hatchet! :icon_thumright:

Congrats on the finds, and the permission!

Getting over the fear of asking permission is why you read of guys not finding any old coins. Once you loose that fear its game on.

Congrats on all of your "first finds". That's a nice batch of coins.

Very well done. You got three nice old coins. Congrats.

Congratz! Great Day!

Excellent day and all they can say is no. Ethics bring great rewards and giving the hand axe and other finds to the landowner rewards him for his trust in you. HH

Thanks, I am still on cloud 9 about the coins :) Before I bought my metal detector and then found this site I had no clue about Indian Head pennies, Mercs, Barbers, Standing and Seated Liberty coins...and the list goes on. Now I want them ALL. The next one I would like to find is a large silver...but my IHP is my favorite item I have found so far. I now have permission to hunt a field next to where a CW fort was so I am hoping for big things from there. This has been a great way to spend some free time.
