So finally this area I have been hunting in PA has given up something else besides my 100 wheat pennies. The other day I dug 2 halves, and 3 quarters, with one rosie a week earlier. This park has been hit many times my others in the years, well i guess they missed some. I have only found about 4 silvers prior so to find this many in one day in about 1 hour was pretty cool. It has taken me a bit getting used to using the ATPro but I I'm def getting more confident in the machine. Its also about location locatation. lol [URL=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/wshepard19/media/Coins/null_zps7f323b3b.jpg.html]

beautiful coins!

super awesome silvers. I've been on detecting forums for more than 15 years and that is maybe the 3rd or 4th Columbian Expo half I've ever seen dug and posted. not really a rare coin, but I'd say a rare dig. congrats!

That is a staggering amount of silver in one hunt ! and as jewelerguy pointed out those commemorative halves are rarely dug up !

First Columbian Exposition half I've seen dug in my time here. Amazing stuff! I'd be ecstatic.

Im definately going to check for dimes, I set the detector high b/c I was about to leave and wanted to pull some clad quarters fast. Well, actually I pulled my most silver ever and within about 1 hour. When i'm digging signals of pennies and up Im real slow moving b/c the dep penniens esp wheats at 6 or deeper really are quite and jump between a good signal and the lower tone. If I go fast or normal swipping speed, it sounds more like a bad signal. If I slow down, that tone really comes out more signalling a small coin. I figure its b/c the coin has leached out copper into the soil some so I'm picking up some of that leached copper in the soil to just give me a slightly jumpy tone. Its worked I have dug many wheats here so far but its time consuming. With the det at 80 and up I pick up pennies, so I wanted to make sure they where out for my last real fast cherry pick. It worked for sure. I was getting frustraited some with the At Pro b/c I havent been digging much silver but this day proved that the detector does work great and its just location location location. Im thinking I will finish out at 85 and up than hit it again with 90 to 80 than all tones later on. I have only been detecting for about a year now, not much in silver until I found these in one trip. Now I wonder how those that detected around the silver cut off dates must have felt when they dug nothing but silver coins. LOL

Nice sweet finds.Congrats.

Awesome finds there! :icon_thumleft: Hope you lucky streak continues. That last 1941 half looks like it still has some good definition.

First of all congratulations on a fantastic hunt! And welcome to the Columbian half club, I found mine in July on a sidewalk tearout here in Vegas. Still trying to get my post together on this. Hope your streak continues. Good luck.

Looks like you had a great day!!!

The first coin I ever found metal detecting was a Columbian Exposition half, only thing was I didn't have the metal detector! I was about 10 years old and my buddy had his dads detector and we were detecting behind a church in our neighborhood, I was walking behind him and looked down and it was laying on top of the ground. I still have it in my coin collection (see Picture) 40 years later. I just bought my first metal detector this year and my buddy bought one too.DSC_4139.JPG

Wow, that looks like a fun day. :icon_thumleft: Congrats on the silver and the cool Columbian Exposition half. Glad you're figuring your AT Pro out.
