I had an invite to hit an old farm house from the mid 1800s yesterday morning. We had been told the house had been moved at one time. The ground turned out to be a junk field. Many pieces of melted aluminum cans, can slaw, zinc lids, all kinds of stuff. I had put the 8 inch coil on the E-Trac which is mostly how I start to hunt these old places. After digging about a dozen junk holes I started digging only deeper signals of over 6 inches on the depth display. I had worked my way over towards the well and got a deep bouncy signal. The Conductivity side stayed in the 40s so I dug it. The coin was probably 8-10 inches deep. When I saw it in the hole, I thought it might be a Barber but was pleasantly surprised to find it was an 1877 cc Seated Quarter. I'm all my years if hunting this is only my 3rd seated coin. The last one was an 1877cc Seated Dime. Now for the 1877 cent ;D

Awosome! In my 7+ yras I've only dug 3 seated dimes and they're all beat. You did good - - - Congrats! :icon_thumright:

Nice find Bob. I don't know what it is about seated silver in Southwest Pennsylvania, but I find it very elusive. In 26 years of detecting, I have found only one seated silver - an 1890 dime. But I have found 45 Spanish silvers, 15 half cents, and countless Large Cents and Indian heads from the Seated period. This seated silver drought has me baffled :dontknow:

Re: A First 1877cc Seated Quarter - She is a beauty!

Way to stay after it - - - a lot of people give up when the going gets tough. It takes a lot of concentration to work through all of that junk. Looks like a pretty sweet reward for your hard work. Congrats!

Yup, I agree, Ive only found 2 in my 8yrs of hunting, a 52 dime and a 76 half, i did find one bust half though. looks like yours was a deepy. those e-tracs sure pull em out of hiding though. good job on the seated

love to see the cc's pulled here in the east.
an 1877 trade dollar would be a pleasant enough alternative to the '77 penny... :headbang:

Seateds are hard to come by for me up here aswell. Beauty of a coin. :notworthy:

nice CC!!!! MR TUFF

When you sent me the picture it was the back first.... seeing the QUAR DOL I thought you may have found a draped or capped bust!! Never saw the mint mark then, but I'm happy for you even though it was "only" a seated... :laughing9: :icon_thumright: Can't wait to see it in person. ;D

Sweet silver find for sure!! :headbang:
