I was on a two day business trip and stopped by the castle ruins of Wallburg for a short break while driving home. The castle, built around 1100, overlooks the Main-Danube River and all the valleys around it. Appears to have had a moat around the castle as well. My imagination always runs wild at these places, having detected around a few castles I can say they are merely mirages and are not worth the time. The fields around them are a different story.
A well that sits just off the castle tower, I wonder what lays at the bottom, looks like it?s only about 10? deep? I could easily repel down the shaft and? Well, never mind?
After all that castle hype, I had to do a hunt when I arrived home. Went out to a grassy field for about an hour I?ve been detecting the past week. Couldn?t hang any longer as it was cold. A few relics I found. A crusty religious pendant, bent collet for a horse bridal and a button with my initial.
Dug several pieces of trash in a small area. Almost didn?t dig this, a nice little coin weight at about 8? down. These are my favorite type relics to find. This one is about the sixth coin weight I?ve found. To bad I can?t make heads or tails out of it and I don?t want to clean it for fear of losing what little detail is left.
It might be wishful thinking but I think I can read 1714 on the edge of the weight. The weight is 14mmX14MM. Thanks for looking and have a Happy Thanksgiving. HH, Mike
